Common misconceptions about hypnosis

In a sort of funny way, I like the person behind the Sceptic dictionary. While fighting against scams , cults, manipulation and nonsense in this world (which is of course, in my humble opinion, very praiseworthy and admirable pursuit), he is also prone to the exactly same problems he is fighting against.

He uses the methods of neurolinguistic programming to prove that it doesn't work. He uses things used by persuasion experts and top hypnotherapists to prove that hypnotherapy doesn't work. So to know what hypnosis ISN'T, feel free to navigate to his web, immensely popular between sceptics, scientific community that likes to take the short and seemingly easy path to the knowledge. And what is the short and easy path? To let others decide for you what works and believe them instead of finding on your own, and to believe in old and conservative ways of doing things. The well-trodden roads are the easiest to take. (No disrespect to all the hard-working scientists and professionals out there. I just don't like when someone is lazy to at least study the field he is writing about. Isn't it easier to just seek for few arguments that are "for your case", and make a nice report from them?)
